CIABs are Musical DNA

CIABs are musical journeys. By listening, we can follow teenager’s lives as they unfold.

As researchers, we try to follow a teenager’s journey by employing a research methodology – Music Analysis.

We use Music Analysis to extract – in this case – a teen’s identity from listening to the final cultural identity audio biography.

When intentionally placed together, along with quotes, we can begin to get a more detailed understanding of an individual’s life – almost like uncovering the teenager’s musical DNA.

Because music is personal and unique each CIAB is uniquely its own.

Using music analysis with a CIAB is an innovative approach to delve into the intentional selection of songs, the snippets of each piece, and their captivating sonic qualities.

At the heart of this exploration is the song structure, a meticulously crafted arrangement that takes us on an emotional journey. A typical song unfolds in a format that enhances its impact: intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, and outro. This structure serves as a powerful backbone, inviting listeners to connect deeply with the emotional layers embedded within the music.

By dissecting these elements, we can better appreciate how music shapes our feelings and perceptions.

In the end, each CIAB transformed into a fingerprint that can be translated into an Archtype.

Guidelines for Using Music Analysis to Create Archetypes

Asian American Family

1 We view the Asian American culture as an important lens through which we can examine the significance of a teenager’s cultural identity and how it can both enrich their lives and present challenges.

2 Acknowledging the current cultural landscape is crucial, as teenagers’ perceptions of songs, quotes, artists, and musicians can hold deep meaning. It’s essential to understand that this perception reaches beyond mainstream influences to include their cultural and subcultural realities.
